Make sure you have a plan, and stick to it. And if you fall off the wagon, don’t despair – just hop straight back on!
Try not to make too many drastic changes at once… which can mean easing into a detox phase (e.g. start reducing caffeine and alcohol in the the week or two leading up to a cleanse).
Don’t be afraid to tap into a support network at this time – it will help you stick to your plan – this could mean doing a detox with a partner or friend, following a set program (such as Get Clean Get Lean), or consulting a health practitioner (such as a naturopath) for guidance and motivation.
Use herbal teas to hit cravings – e.g. Licorice will help with sweet cravings (it has a sweet flavour) and has the added bonus of supporting the adrenal glands / Dandelion can be used instead of coffee (it has a pleasant, bitter taste) and has the added bonus of improving liver function / Ginger will warm up your digestive system and help with any nausea or headaches you may experience in the first few days of a detox / Peppermint and/or Spearmint will cool down the digestive system (for example, if you suffer from acid reflux) and help with any nausea or headaches you may experience in the first few days of a detox. These are just a few to get started with – there are many more options out there, don’t be afraid to try something new!
